World’s biggest RV

Just when you thought you couldn’t take it all with you, I guess you can!!! According to the truthaboutcars.com this happens to be the largest RV in existence. Here are some details on this house on wheels:

Pop-outs on both sides on the first floor. The second floor lifts up from its bridge-safe position. And there’s even an optional third-floor patio-deck!

Wether or not this is truly the biggest Rv in existence, well that remains to be contested. Enjoy a couple of photos

Find the cheapest gas on the go – for free!

It’s never fun to drive around and constantly be overly alert for the best gas deal you can spot.Finding affordable gas prices while driving around in your RV in a unfamiliar city or town can be a torturous endeavor.

We thought this week we would bring you another handily little app that you can simply download onto your smart phone device. An app from GasBuddy.com will take care of the tedious gas price hunting for you by finding the location and address of gas stations in your area, offering the best gas prices (updated in 48 hour periods) around. Search for gas prices by state, city and town to find the most convenient and easiest to get to locations.

Give the app a try and cut out the unnecessary, and quite frankly, stressful activity of gas-price hunting out of your RV trip.

Trip Advice for when you are on the Road

Being an avid RV’er we see a lot more of the country then your typical American. Now, if your are out on the road and want some advice about a good place to eat or something to do – here is a new-old way to get some advice… ask your friends. A service called Uptake makes this extremely easy.

Here is an article featured on Gigaom about the app:

“The way the app works is pretty straightforward: Say I’m going to New Orleans. If I’m logged into Travel Q&A, I can search for New Orleans on the Uptake site, and the app will identify which of my friends are best positioned to give me travel recommendations. I can then choose to ask any or all of those people for their travel recommendations either through a public wall post or a private Facebook message.

According to Uptake, this is no easy feat. The company says Travel Q&A runs on its patent-pending “destination mining” technology that “analyzes both friends’ explicit location data, such as hometowns and check-ins, as well as friends’ less-obvious, implicit location data … in the form of photos, status updates and comments.”

Very cool new way to get the inside scoop about all the places you visit. Check out the travel app here: UpTake

Traveling with an iPad2, Nook, or Kindle

As you set off on your next RV road trip we thought you might want to cut down on clutter by bringing unnecessary extra’s like books. No, don’t get overly irate you erudites. We didn’t mean to imply for you to spot reading…but what we are advocating is putting down those now outdated (irony) hard covers and paperbacks for the new e-readers. The iPad, Kindle, or Nook make traveling with your collection of books extremely easy. The best part, they are light weight, won’t clutter up your RV cabin, and keeps all the books you love at your fingertips. If you finish your book early, and you are still out on your RV adventure, not to worry – the book store now travels with you, it’s all in the device.

Here are 3 reviews of each device so you can see which one fits your needs:

1. Nook – $249

Tip: A test to make sure the power at your campground is working

While you are away from your camp ground for the day here is a simple way to check and make sure that there hasn’t been any interruptions in the power supply to your RV. This tip might take you back to your High School science days, but this bit of RV dealers observational detective work might keep you from getting sick.

Place a single ice-cube in a paper cup and leave it sitting in your freezer. Know the shape and form of the ice-cube when you leave it in your freezer. When you return to your RV from your day trips simply check on the ice-cube. If while you where gone it has changed shapes, melted and refrozen in a different shape then when you left it, then you know that the power source to your RV and at the campground has gone out while you were gone. If this happens make sure to check the quality of your food. A little RV tip to keep you from getting sick.

Great RV recipe- Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo

sausage and shrimp gumbo

Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo

Ingredients:

1/3 cup + 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 cup all purpose flour
2 celery stalks, chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 green pepper, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 box (14.5 oz.) chicken broth
1 box (14.5 oz) beef broth
1/2 lb. chorizo sausage, cut into 1/4-inch rounds
1/2 cup chopped green onion tops
1 Tablespoon minced fresh sage
1 Tablespoon minced fresh thyme
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
1 lb. medium shrimp, shelled & deveined
Several cups cooked rice

Cooking instructions:

In a large soup pot, heat oil over med-low heat. Gradually add in flour and stir, not allowing the mixture to burn.  Let it cook until it’s light brown, stirring, about 10 minutes. Pour in the broth and mix until blended.
In a non-stick skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of oil and heat until hot. Add celery, garlic, green pepper, onion, and green onion tops, and cook until vegetables are tender.
To the roux-thickened broth add the stewed tomatoes, chorizo, herbs, salt, black pepper and the vegetables.
Add 4 cups of water and heat to boiling. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 40 minutes. Skim off any fat that comes to the surface.
Add the shrimp and cook, uncovered, for 5 minutes or until the shrimp turn opaque.
